Some may wonder why there would be olive oil in soap? Olive oil softens skin and makes hair shiny smooth, especially great for cold, dry climates.

Here is some history from Rachel Hozey, an eHow Contributor,

Upper-class Romans believed in the skin benefits of olive oil. After steaming in a hot bath, they would apply a generous amount of olive oil to withdraw impurities and then go to the cold bath to close the skin's pores. The oil helped trap impurities outside the skin; both could then be scraped away. Read more at http://www.ehow.com/facts_5530027_benefits-olive-oil-skin.html.

This excerpt from More Than Alive has some interesting things to say about rosemary essential oil.

The stimulating and soothing affects of Rosemary oil can benefit your hair and skin in a wide variety of ways. Using the oil as a leave-in conditioner can help keep you hair silky smooth. Rubbing the oil on the scalp may stimulate hair growth and some studies suggest may aid in reversal of alopecia. The oil can be used with witch hazel as a toner, help in combating acne, eczema or oily skin. It can be added to a natural soap to help benefit your overall skin health. Add to massage oil for stimulation of the lymphatic system, which can aid in weight loss.

The factory made soap purchased in stores today aren't what our ancestors would define as soap. Soap has natural moisturizing qualities which have been stripped from modern factory soaps. While soap is a "cleanser" factory soap is more like a "detergent" and will dry and irritate your skin. The reason why factory soaps do this to your skin and homemade soaps don't is due to the ingredients used in mass-produced soap. When companies make soap in bulk, they switch ingredients so that they can get more soap made for less money. This can prove to be very harmful to the end-consumer.

As is with food, manufactured soap tends to not offer you skin/body what it needs to stay healthy and moisturized/smooth. Homemade soap is made with natural ingredients such as olive oil which softens the skin without any irritation.

If you have eczema or another related skin condition try to remove mass manufactured bod care products from use and use local natural made body care products for a few weeks and see if there is a difference. It is worth your while, its your skin, you have it for life.
